Abdominal and Pelvic pain are very debilitating conditions with a major impact on health-related quality of life in both men and women. Since it is a multifactorial condition, management will involve different clinical disciplines. A number of associations and societies have been established over the years, representing and supporting all caregivers working in the two main fields in the world of visceral pain: abdominal and pelvic pain.

However, this 1^st World Congress on Abdominal and Pelvic Pain in 2013, is particularly exciting as a first historical collaboration between three leading organizations active in this area - , ConvergencesPP, The International Pelvic Pain Society and Pain of UroGenital Origin (PUGO). Organizing such a congress together allows us to present a unique and most comprehensive programme. In addition to the pelvic pain we have incorporated abdominal pain into our scientific programme. Thereby we cover the majority of subjects in the field of visceral pain.

The sessions will cater to all specialists involved in the treatment of visceral pain, which also include visceral organ specialists. The programme covers all aspects of abdominal and pelvic pain; from anatomy, pathophysiology and clinical aspects to treatment options, guidelines and (future) research. Focus will not just be on pain, but also the organ systems related to, and potentially contributing to the pain. 

Since the organizing associations represent the various disciplines for which this meeting will be most relevant, we expect attendance by gynecologists, urologists, surgeons, gastroenterologists, general practitioners, pain doctors, physiotherapists and psychologist/sexologists, amongst others. 

The 2013 World Congress on Abdominal and Pelvic Pain presents a unique opportunity to learn and discuss and thereby improve the care provided to patients suffering from pelvic pain.
